Updates – CampNaNoWriMo and the 5amwritersclub
Popping in to give everyone an update on what’s been happening. I’m trying to make an effort to post more here (even if it’s just bots and spammers commenting, at least someone is “reading” this.)
I’ve been hard at work for the 2019 April CampNaNoWrio. This time around my goal is to work on my current WIP. It’s a contemporary romance, which I’ve mentioned a few times and if you follow me on Twitter, you can see some updates there as well. I’m editing, rewriting, and adding 22, 000 words. By the end of April, I expect to have the first draft completed. So far it looks like I’m well on my way.
It’s the halfway point for CampNanNoWriMo and I’m at 17,123 words. I tried a new thing this year, joining the 5 am writers’ club on Twitter (#5amwritersclub). I drag myself out of bed at 4:30 so I can be ready for the day, and then from 5-6ish I write. I’m tracking what I write in that time, and I’ve managed to be writing at 5 am for thirteen of the fifteen days, writing over 10k, in those wee hours of the morning. I’ve written a lot after 6, which is when I’m usually up and working away, but I wanted to see if it’s worth it after the mayhem of CampNanNoWriMo is over, and I think it is. I don’t think I will do the 5 am writers’ club every day, but maybe two-thee times a week would work. I’m getting a lot of work done and I’m enjoying the quiet me time. Others hear I’m up that early and think I’m nuts, but not only am I getting a lot of writing done, I’m connecting with other writers who are up at the crack of dawn like me, and the support has been wonderful.
In other news, in eighteen days until the big book fair event is happening. It’s my first big book event, and I’m getting excited. BookMarkIt is being held on May 4, 2019, 10 am–5 pm at the Whitby Curling Club. I’ll be there, with copies of Lester’s Great Adventure. Be sure to visit the recently added News & Events page for more details.
And that’s it. I will hopefully have more news soon. The idea of having a completed first draft by the end of the month is exciting. I’m sure that excitement will go away when I have to edit it, but for now I’m in the “yay me” stage of the writing process mode. Hopefully, by the fall, the book will be published.
Keep watching space as I update you on this journey!
