I haven’t posted here in a while – because I’ve been busy writing, trying to get caught up in reading and avoiding my household chores. If you want to stay up-to-date with my writing adventure, sign-up for my monthly newsletter – The JMD Monthly.
From the Writer’s Desk…
I’m not sure if it’s the summer weather or a case of writer’s block or maybe it was because I was so busy in July, but the past few weeks, the writing process has been slow – snail speed at times. I attempted the July Camp NaNoWriMo, with the goal of 15,000 words, but only managed to write a little over 5,000. But, that was 5,000 more words than I had before and the end of the story is in sight. I’m currently at 47,860 words, and I’m aiming to reach the 55,000-word mark by the time I finish the story.
In September, I will be attending the Northern Hearts Conference (which is run by the Toronto Romance Writers, a chapter of Romance Writers of America, both of which I recently joined). My goal is to have the first draft of Moving On, finished by that date. It’s on September 22, which means I have plenty of time to finish the first draft. Now I need someone to kick my butt into gear.
News and Updates…
In July, while I was dashing between running the book launches, and popping into the Walking Taco party, I was (finally) able to meet up with my spectacular illustrator, Tina Olah. It was the first time we’ve been able to get together since the book was published, so we had a mini-celebration in the hallway.
In other exciting news, while at Ad Astra, I was asked by the awesome people at Myth Hawker Travelling Bookstore, if I wanted Lester’s Great Adventure stocked in the store. Of course I said yes, and nowLester’s Great Adventure is touring around with Myth Hawker. Recently, along with many other amazing books, it was spotted at When Words Collide convention in Calgary. This is a fantastic bookstore, if you want to learn more about them check them out on Twitter, Facebook and their website.
Copies of Lester’s Great Adventure will be journeying with them until the end of the summer.

Ever have the experience where you have hundreds of books on your bookshelf to choose from, yet you find yourself browsing the bookstore, both physical and later online for something to read? That has been me as of late. I can’t seem to find that book – the one you read non-stop, in one sitting, until it’s finished. I haven’t read a book like that in a while, and I’m itching to find it.
