It’s CampNaNoWriMo Time!
It’s almost April and as some of you may know, means it’s time for Camp NaNoWriMo! This will be my fourth CampNanoWriMo, and I’m looking forward to settling in and dedicating some time to write. One thing I like about CampNano is that you have cabin mates who will help encourage you to write, and it’s a little less constricting than NaNoWriMo which is in November, where writings like me, try to write 50,000 words in a month. With the CamNaNoWriMos, you can set your own word, page, editing counts, or whatever goal you want to have for your work in progress.
I’m using this month to work on a romance novel, my goal is 25, 000 words – and I may also poke at the manuscript to the follow-up story of my first book, Lester’s Great Adventure. The romance novel I’m working on has aspects from a story I started a long time ago – I think the first version of the story, was written when I was around ten or eleven years old. At the time it was less of a romance story, although it did have romantic elements in it, it was from the mindset of a ten-year-old, (very PG, hand holding and a kiss was the ooh-la-la moment). So, I’ve taken those characters and, now I’m turning it into something. I’m not sure how hot and steamy I will go; my story will likely be more on the milder side, but I’m using this story to help me get more comfortable when writing love scenes – they come out procedural and bland. It’s an experiment for me, and who knows, maybe I’ll find my niche with this. I never intended to write a children’s picture book, and now I’ve published one – so I’m up to challenging myself and seeing where it takes me.
If you want to follow my progress throughout April, be sure to follow me on Twitter (@DobsonJulieM) or add me as a friend at CampNaNoWriMo. I’d love to see what you have planned. Talking about your WIP on Twitter with others is a great way to procrastinate from the actual writing of the story, but still sorta-but-not-really-participating. I’m good at that part!
